August 31 to September 6, 2010 Dear Friends, Have you ever created a NOLAlicious night? This past Saturday night, we headed out with friends to see The Big Easy Rollergirls (featured in #20), and while driving there passed the Greek Orthodox Church where we featured the Greek Festival (#20). Later, as we walked down Oak Street on our way to Midsummer Mardi Gras, I said, "Oak Bar is open! We have to feature that this week!" As the night continued to Avenue Pub (#15) for one more beer to cap off the night, we talked about the amazing pho at the back of Lost Love Lounge (#28) and how excited we were to have finally made it to the other new Marigny spot, Three Muses (#32) As the night went on, it reminded me how much NOLAlicious shapes our experiences in New Orleans. We love checking out the new spots in town and discovering the favorites of our New Orleanian friends. We find out new things every day like when we heard a group of kids ordering Rainbow Snoballs at Plum Street (#28). It's not on the menu! How would we know to order that unless we were vigilant in being ever-observant to what is happening around us? We love meeting our readers! At the pub Saturday, we had the privilege to meet a longtime reader who was so excited she screamed, "Y'all are NOLAlicious? I love y'all. You guys make my week! I forward your newsletter every week to friends. I was just on your website tonight looking for something fun to do this weekend." To us, it doesn't get much better than that. Like huge ear-to-ear smiles across our faces. But here's the secret. All of this magic, all of the wonder, all of the culture, it was already here. New Orleans has always been one of the best cities in the country and we know it always will be. We're just taking a little time each week to remind everyone what it looks like to see it from the eye of a tourist and soul of a native. Ever yours, PS: Create your own NOLAlicious adventure by browsing the NOLAlicious index, a full listing of every pick this year!

GO Gay Mardi Gras is here! Go down to the Quarter to get lost at Southern Decadence this weekend. This all weekend party is for everyone to experience, and every time someone mentions it to us their eyes get really wide and they go "Oh you simply must go!" We've heard almost all of the local hotels are sold out and that sounds like a great weekend for the local economy too. French Quarter, past St. Ann on Bourbon and around the general neighborhood. Free and open to the public. DO Clothing rediscovered! Of all the reasons we love consignment stores, here are the top two. Nothing is better than going through someone else's closet and we love a good deal. One of our local favorites is Swap. It's upscale consignment and they always have an awesome collection of clothes, purses and shoes to choose from. You can also try your hand at selling and they'll walk you through the (painless) process. For our expat friends, you can shop their eBay store! Open Monday-Saturday 10 AM to 6 PM. 7716 Maple Street. EAT September is upon us and what better way to celebrate cooling temperatures than grabbing a glass of wine with friends? We suggest you head over to Oak, a fantastic new wine bar in the Riverbend area. The fun atmosphere and fresh space make it a great meeting place. Extensive wine and food selection. Live music. Open daily. 8118 Oak Street. EAT Did you know the West Bank is one of the top 5 largest Vietnamese communities in America? Along with the Vietnamese culture, we are lucky to have some of the best pho (Vietnamese noodle soup) restaurants around! One of our favorites is Pho Tau Bay. This place is a staple for all who love pho. From staples like Pho Ga and spring rolls, to sticky buns and steamed vermicelli noodles you really can't go wrong plus the staff is always welcoming. Great prices. Open daily Mon-Sat. 9 AM to 8:30 PM. 113 Westbank Expy. LAGNIAPPE Do you GroupOn? The fastest growing company made its debut in New Orleans this past summer and we love getting their emails and discovering new shops and places to try around New Orleans. Plus, the deals can't be beat! For those who aren't familiar with GroupOn, it's part of a movement called collective buying where by a certain number of people buying a deal, everyone gets a steep discount. It's coupons sure, it's also a great economic stimulus for local businesses. You can sign up here. JOBS Manager Marketing and Communications, Cox Communications
