August 24 to 30, 2010 Dear Friends, We know the calendar is full this week, what with all the conferences, symposiums and remembrance activities planned, but there is always time to get together with friends for a drink or two. Here's where we come in! What'cha up to tomorrow night? Come out and join the NOLAlicious crew for a fun night to celebrate nationwide Gulf Coast Benefits #2 and Citizen Gulf's National Day of Action at R Bar in the Marigny. We'll be getting together starting at 6 PM and hanging out at R Bar until 10 PM. R Bar is being awesome for hosting us, and we're excited to bring together so many of our friends so please stop by. There is an optional $10 donation where 100% will go to Catholic Charities through an new initiative by CitizenGulf. You can also make a donation in advance. Over 20 cities are participating in this second round of Gulf Coast Benefits, we're so proud to be a part of this amazing national endeavor to provide assistance to fishermen and their families throughout the Gulf Coast. GO In the spirit of the original TED and ideas worth spreading, TEDxNOLA is happening this Friday and it's going to be spectacular. TEDx events are combinations of TEDTalks and live speakers that come together to spark deep discussion and connections. Speakers include Mayor Mitch Landrieu, John Besh, James Carville, Harry Shearer and Wendell Pierce! Only 200 tickets are available and we hear they're going fast, so what are you waiting for? Tickets $35 and available at Le Petit Theatre located at 616 St. Peter Street. Friday all day, starting at 9 AM. DO Head over to the Zeitgeist Arts Center for the annual FREE LGBT Prom, a signature event for all LGBT in the community and their allies. The prom will feature a DJ and dancing, the opportunity to vote for a Prom King and Queen, light food and drinks, and a cash bar (for those 21+). Grey Cross Studios will provide photography for the evening as well as living art exhibits. Did someone say live models in full body paint? Only thing is it can get pricey, which is why we jumped at The New Orleans Helsinki Connection offer for 2-1 tickets for locals. Lead trumpet player Leroy Jones is a true New Orleans legend, and we'll be dancing in our seats at Preservation Hall this Friday and Saturday night. 2-for-1 tickets for locals with proper ID (reserved tickets are $25 and show times are 8, 9 and 10 PM. 726 St. Peter Street. EAT Check out Little Vic’s Gelateria, a brand new addition to Magazine Street. Homemade gelato and paninis will make your mouth water and satisfy your stomach. Open daily 8 AM to 11 PM. 1912 Magazine Street LAGNIAPPE We love a good clothing swap and are excited to see the launch of Ruffian Swap happening this Saturday at Le Thai Uptown. Bring $20 and drop off clothes, shoes and accessories starting at 4:30 and the swap will run from 7 to 8 PM. A DJ will be provide the tunes, drinks specials will be at the ready and a stylist on-hand to help you during the event. All leftovers will be donated to local charities. RSVP here.
