July 13 to 19, 2010 Dear Friends, As the summer drags along and the heat continues to rise, I hope this newest addition of NOLAlicious finds you well and in a cool place. A friend and I were commenting the other day on how in the deep end of summer, as we call it, the entire city shifts. It takes lots of energy to do almost anything in this heat and the amazing thing is most of us seem to enjoy it. I think many of you will agree that there is a certain something special in just lounging around with your friends, talking, sipping on a beer and just plain sweating. It’s New Orleans and it’s summer. Things are how they should be. We now you'll try to stay cool this week, and here's two ways to help out the community and still stay ! I work for a wonderful organization called the NO/AIDS Task Force, which is holding its annual Dining out for Life this Thursday. Over 60 restaurants will donate 25% of their proceeds to the Task Force, so eat out to give back! In addition, the Pepsi Refresh Project: Do Good for the Gulf started accepting ideas yesterday for their special, Gulf-focused program to grant $1.3 million to ideas to that have a positive impact on communities directly impacted by the Gulf Oil Spill. The deadline is this Friday at noon, or until 1,000 ideas have been submitted. Talk to your friends, and submit those ideas you've all been running through your heads. It has been a treat to work with my comrades at NOLAlicious this summer. I hope you have been enjoying us and I look forward to many more fun filled issues. Keep sending in your tips, suggestions and ideas! We love all the responses we get, you rock! With perspiration and smiles, Martin and the NOLAlicious teamPS - Our pal Carl is hosting a few of his friends this from a cross-country project called Way Below Status Quo in NOLA on Thursday. The night will start at the Orange Couch at 6 PM, followed by a Get Down dance lesson at Shine Step Studios. Come join them!
